Cfs was established during the last quarter of 1997 following 12 years of experience of the founder as a professional in Turkey's major financial institutions.
These years coincided with the modernisation of Turkish Capital Markets:
Istanbul stock exchange was inaugurated, first research study was done, foreign investors were allowed in, privatisations and initial public offerings were structured, new instruments such as mutual funds, reits, asset backed securities were introduced into the market.
Sinan Arslaner, the founder of the Cfs, was actively involved in many projects in the Turkish Capital Markets, as a first generation investment banker. He structured around 20 ipos, managed 7 privatisation projects, established and headed four investment banking operations from the scratch, chaired mutual funds and investment trusts, listed 4 local companies abroad and managed 2 ADR programs during this period.
The need to set up a separate consulting company arose from the local market practices. Investment banking activities are now squeezed into brokerage houses, following a Capital Market Board decree in 1995. Banks had to set up separate vehicles so as to operate in capital markets.
Many brokerage houses have concentrated only on discount brokerage services. They are not equipped to provide corporate finance services to their clients.
